1994
New Beginnings
Growing up in India, founder and owner Shankar Balan, was surrounded by textile equipment from a young age. His fatherโs best friend owned a mill and seeing the process first hand sparked his interest in the industry. It wasnโt until 1994, however, that Palmetto Industries was formed. While on a golf trip in Augusta, GA, Balan saw an opportunity to start his own venture. In an industrial building off of Tobacco Road, Palmetto Industries started churning out product. The venture quickly out grew the space and moved to Gordon
Highway, where things really took off. In itโs first year, Palmetto Industries generated over one million dollars in sales. The company was featured in Entrepreneur Magazine as one of the 20 fastest growing companies in America.
1995
First Of Itโs Kind.
A joint venture established in 1995 with our Indian counterpart lead to Palmetto becoming the first FIBC manufacturer in India. In just itโs second year, Palmetto grew to over three million dollars in revenue and was again recognized as the 6th fastest growing business by Entrepreneur Magazine. Then in 1997, Palmetto created itโs first supplier relationship in China, further solidifing its name and presence as a global leader in the FIBC market. That same year Palmetto Industries was also named Small Business of the Year from the Augusta Chamber of Commerce.
2006
Vertically Integrated.
Growth has always been a chief component in our philosophy here at Palmetto. And in 2006 we accomplished something no other US based FIBC company has done. Via acquisition of supplier, Palmetto Industries India Private Ltd. was established in Pondicherry, India and we became the first vertically integrated FIBC Manufacturer with over 100,000 sq. ft. of manufacturing space, helping our company to expand itโs capabilities in this ever changing market.
2008
Gaining More Traction.
Between 2008 and 2009, Palmetto has received ISO:9001, ISO:22000, and HACCP Certifications to further cement our commitment to staying on the leading edge of industry standards and protocols.
